PSI Concert to Benefit Community Counseling Center

Local Musician to perform concert to benefit the PSI Community Counseling Center

ATLANTA/CHATTANOOGA, March 5, 2008- The Psychological Studies Institute (PSI) today announced plans for a benefit concert by Jennifer Daniels, a Chattanooga native and nationally recognized singer and songwriter. The concert is scheduled for Friday, April 18th @ 7:30pm, hosted by North Shore Fellowship, located at 118 Woodland Avenue, with all proceeds benefiting the PSI Community Counseling Center. PSI Faculty Member Appointed to State Board

Governor Perdue appoints William F. Doverspike, Ph.D to Georgia State Board of Examiners

ATLANTA/CHATTANOOGA, March 4, 2008- Psychological Studies Institute (PSI) today announced that Governor Perdue recently appointed PSI Adjunct Faculty Member, Dr. William F. Doverspike to the Georgia State Board of Examiners of Psychologists.

This statement was released by the State of Georgia Office of the Governor:

William F. Doverspike, Ph.D., 56, Atlanta, Psychologist Representative- Doverspike is a practicing psychologist at William F. Doverspike, Ph.D., PC. He teaches graduate courses in professional ethics, psychopathology and psychotherapy at Argosy University and at Psychological Studies Institute. He is a member, and previously served as president, of the ethics committee of the Georgia Psychological Association. He is the editor of Georgia Psychologist Magazine, as well as the author of numerous books and articles. He is a fellow of the Academy of Clinical Psychology and a member of the National Academy of Neuropsychology. Doverspike earned a bachelor’s degree from Emory University, and both a master’s degree and doctoral degree from Virginia Commonwealth University.

PSI Adds New Trustee

Mr. Roderick A. Dowling Joins PSI’s Board

ATLANTA/CHATTANOOGA, February 28, 2008- The Psychological Studies Institute (PSI) today announced that Mr. Roderick A. Dowling has joined the PSI Board of Trustees. Roderick A. Dowling is the Chairman of SunTrust Robinson Humphrey. He is a graduate of Fairfield University and Fordham University School of Law. He is a Director of SunTrust Capital Markets, Inc., and a committee member of the Executive Committee, Commitment Committee and SunTrust Equity Partners. Prior to joining SunTrust Robinson Humphrey, Dowling served as Senior Vice President of Bear Stearns & Co., where he was responsible for the corporate finance activities of Bear Stearns in the Southeast. He also served as Vice President-General Counsel to Fuqua Industries, Inc., where he participated in numerous acquisitions, dispositions, tender offers and leveraged buyouts. Mr. Dowling is a member of the New York and Georgia Bar Associations and practiced corporate and SEC law with the Wall Street law firm of Cahill, Gordon & Reindel.

PSI Hires Two New Directors

Ms. Laurie Chandler joins PSI as the Assistant Director of Grants & Ms. Meredith Williams, MAMFT, LAPC joins PSI as the Director of Alumni Relations.

ATLANTA/CHATTANOOGA, January 28, 2008- Psychological Studies Institute (PSI) today announced the addition of two new directors, Ms. Laurie Chandler and Ms. Meredith Williams. The president of PSI, Dr. Jeff Terrell, said “It is wonderful to have two candidates with proven business experience to direct these two areas so critical for PSI’s future growth.”

 

Ms. Laurie Chandler has joined PSI as the Assistant Director of Grants for the Atlanta campus. She received an undergraduate Bachelor of Science in Music Performance with a minor in Psychology from Louisiana State University and is currently a student at PSI working toward a Master of Arts in Professional Counseling. Ms. Chandler has past experience working in the mental health field. She has also worked as a leasing agent for Walton Communities. Ms. Chandler has a fourteen-year-old son, Ryan, and an eleven-year-old daughter, Allison. She lives in Marietta and attends North Metro Church.

Ms. Meredith Williams, MAMFT, LAPC is a 2007 graduate of PSI. Ms. Williams is the new Director of Alumni Relations for PSI. In that role, she will coordinate production of the PSI Connecting newsletter, plan key events for alumni, and assist with key marketing initiatives, including the upcoming Renovarè Conference. Mrs. Williams has past experience working in consulting for Accenture, which is a worldwide consulting firm, headquartered in Chicago. Mrs. Williams also works in private practice at the North Atlanta Center for Christian Counseling, where she is pursuing Georgia state licensure in both Professional Counseling and Marriage and Family Therapy. She and her husband, Scott Williams attend Atlanta Westside Presbyterian Church.

PSI Opens Two New Community Counseling Centers

PSI announces grand openings of new counseling centers: PSI Hope Counseling Center – Atlanta, GA & PSI Community Counseling Center – Chattanooga, TN

ATLANTA/CHATTANOOGA, October 11, 2007- The Psychological Studies Institute (PSI) today announced that it has opened new counseling centers in Chattanooga, TN and Atlanta, GA. The PSI Hope Counseling Center in Atlanta will hold grand opening ceremonies on October 12, 2007 at 5 pm. The PSI Community Counseling Center in Chattanooga will hold an open house on Oct. 23 from 5:30 – 7pm.

 

The newest PSI Hope Counseling Center in Atlanta is located in the newly renovated Suite 100 in Building Four of the office complex located at 4200 Northside Parkway in Atlanta, GA. PSI operates a network of Christian counseling centers in the metropolitan Atlanta area.

The PSI Community Counseling Center in Chattanooga (PSI CCC) is located in a newly renovated building located at 1808 Oak Street in Chattanooga. “We are pleased to be moving into new office space to expand counseling services, providing more individuals and families with affordable faith-based counseling,” remarked PSI CCC Director, Jana Pressley, PhD.

PSI Counseling Centers provide a wide range of counseling services from licensed clinical faculty, master’s-level clinicians and student interns who are working under licensed supervision. Individual, couple, children, adolescent and family therapy counseling services are available to the community.

PSI Faculty Member Speaks at WNIV Power Lunch

ATLANTA/CHATTANOOGA, August 27, 2007- PSI faculty member and international speaker, Dr. DeAnne Terrell, is speaking to local professionals about being salt and light in a hurting world at the WNIV Power Lunch. The Power Lunch will be held Tuesday, Aug. 28, 2007 from 11:30am to 1:00pm at the Spaghetti Warehouse on Delk Road in Marietta, GA.

 

Dr.Terrell is a frequent retreat speaker for many Atlanta area churches; including, Johnson Ferry Baptist Church, Northstar, Riverstone and First Baptist Cartersville. However, Dr. Terrell also has a heart for the world. In 2005, Dr. Terrell traveled to India to teach Master’s level classes in Counseling Psychology to those who could not travel to America to attend classes.

Dr. Terrell believes that we all have an opportunity to be salt and light whether we work in ministry or the secular workplace. With gentle humor and grace, Dr. Terrell encourages her audience to be an intentional witness of God’s love in the workplace. She has practical knowledge of a hurting world from 20 years of counseling as both an LPC and Licensed Psychologist.

Dr. Terrell is the Dean of Students at PSI (Psychological Studies Institute). She is a 1996 graduate of the PhD Counseling Psychology program at the University of Southern Mississippi. In 1986, Dr. Terrell received a M.S. Degree in Community Counseling from Georgia State and a Diploma in Christian Psychological Studies from PSI. Dr. Terrell has been married for 21 years to C. Jeffrey Terrell, PhD and is the proud mother of two teenagers.


Three New Scholarships Added

ATLANTA/CHATTANOOGA, May 4, 2007- Dr. Jeff Terrell, president of PSI, announced today the formation of three new scholarship funds at PSI.

  1. The Mary and Windy Willingham & Ann Rollinson Memorial Scholarship Fund will assist students pursuing a master’s degree in professional counseling or marriage and family therapy at PSI. The scholarship is designed for students in the Chattanooga area who demonstrate a financial need and who desire to work in an inner-city ministry upon the completion of their graduate studies.
  2. The Baird McClure Memorial Scholarship was endowed by the late Nick Senter upon his death in August, 2006. Nick Senter was a longtime benefactor of both the Chattanooga Bible Institute and Psychological Studies Institute. The Baird McClure Memorial Scholarship is for students in the professional counseling or marriage and family programs who have demonstrated financial need. The McClure Scholarship will provide recipients between $1,000 and $5,000 per academic year as determined by the scholarship committee. The maximum amount awarded to a recipient during enrollment at PSI is $10,000 over a period no longer than three years.
  3. The June Braund Scholarship is designed for the student with interests in gerontological counseling. As our population ages, the needs of our senior citizens become ever more prominent in our society. Despite this reality, few training programs are available to meet the increasing demands posed by the graying of our society. This scholarship will provide $5,000 per calendar year. The maximum amount awarded to a recipient during enrollment at PSI is $15,000 over a period no longer than three years. In addition to financial assistance, the recipient will be privileged to be mentored with Dr. Ron Braund, the scholarship donor, counseling entrepreneur and PSI alumnus.

The scholarship committee will begin reviewing applications immediately for scholarships to be awarded this coming fall semester. The next program deadline for applications is June 1, 2011. Please be aware that the scholarship committee reserves the right to conduct interviews of applicants as deemed appropriate.
