Dr. Kim Eckert is a clinical psychologist who is passionate about empowering women to experience the wholeness won for us through Christ. Kim speaks, writes, teaches and counsels about self-esteem, relationship issues, depression, anxiety, body image, and eating disorders. Kim loves helping people gain a fresh understanding of who they are as children of God – created in his image and restored through the saving grace and love of Christ.
After earning a bachelor's degree in cultural anthropology and English at the University of Michigan, Ann Arbor, Kim pursued training in psychology and theology at Wheaton College, where she completed a master's degree and doctorate in clinical psychology. She has counseled individuals, couples, families and groups in a variety of settings, including private practice, outpatient and inpatient psychiatric hospital care. Kim has been an assistant professor of psychology and counseling for the undergraduate psychology program at Lee University for the past seven years, and has taught group therapy and play therapy in the graduate counseling program. Currently, Kim works part-time as the clinical director of the Lee University Play Therapy Center and maintains a private counseling practice at her church, Christ United Methodist. She has written articles for Today’s Christian Woman, Psychology for Living, Leadership, and is the author of the book, Stronger Than You Think: Becoming Whole Without Having to be Perfect. A Woman’s Guide (InterVarsity Press, 2007). She is currently working on a book on female sexuality and gender. Kim lives in Chattanooga, Tennessee, with her sons Tommy and Brennan, and her husband, Jeff, who is a clinical professor at Richmont and is in full-time private practice at the CBI Counseling Center.
